6 Principles of the Forest School Ethos:
· Takes place in a natural environment, preferably a woodland. with opportunities to explore and discover the link between us and the natural world.
· Takes place long term, using the same woodland all year round to build a real connection and allowing ongoing observation and planning also creates a sense of ownership of the space.
· It's learner-centred; the Forest School leader observes and responds to the interest of the group to facilitate their play. This encourages independence and confidence to build their own community and own learning opportunities.
· To promote a holistic development of individuals, encouraging development of the ‘Whole’ being Creating confident, resilient and independent individuals who value each other.
· Opportunities to take manageable risks in a safe environment, encouraging the development of real life skills and promoting healthy self-esteem. Focus on the process rather than the product.
· Run by a Level 3 qualified Forest School leader who develops their own practise and ongoing CPD. Sessions are run on a high adult-to-child ratio to ensure good practice and the best experience for the learner.
